Starting out...
“Timing is everything” is an observation we often make – normally in hindsight! But what about foresight? How do you decide when is a good time, particularly now, in these hugely uncertain times?
A number of years ago we came across some great advice on this which has become a touchstone for us. It was written by W. H. Murray, a mountaineer and deputy leader of the 1951 Scottish Everest Reconnaissance Expedition. To paraphrase, he observed that many great ideas die on the drawing board whereas, “the moment one definitely commits oneself… All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred”. Be bold. Get started.
We think of this as the difference between traditional waterfall planning and agile development. So, this week we are setting out Traxis Energy and want to listen to your feedback before we launch.
What is Traxis Energy? It is a Commercial Incubator Programme for distributed energy. Whereas incubators bring together people and ideas and focus on early adopters, what we are terming a Commercial Incubator brings together businesses and proven ideas to focus on the mass market: so not start-up but market scale-up.
Is it the right time for it? Only time will tell. However, it is needed and where there is change there is opportunity - and now is certainly a time of change.
